Discworld Convention 2010 - A Chairman's Perspective [Sep. 2nd, 2010|02:10 pm]

I've thought about this post a few times over the last couple of days and, simply put, it won't all squeeze in. From travelling over on Wednesday evening to finally departing late on the following Tuesday every waking moment was filled with people and joy and pressure.

From the exhilarating high of getting Go To Ops right at the Opening Ceremony to, well, a couple of pretty low lows there were practically no moments of anything approaching normality.

I am intensely proud that my first Discworld Convention as Chair was not only our biggest, but also the one that featured the Rocky Horror Discworld Show, an auction raising over £18k for charity and so many people having so much fun.

Once again I would like to thank all of our guests, the attendees, my amazing committee and everyone who supported me over the last two years. Only another two to go now! :)

Until now [info]clare_nce  has had my vote for best-dressed and most glamorous head of tech, but she's now been overtaken by [info]shevek  Has anyone got a photo of that fabulous outfit he was wearing at the closing ceremony?

And, because SLEEP is for the WEAK, here are the vaguely decent third of the pictures I took at the 2010 Discworld Con.

Surfing the Cosmic Groove. [Sep. 2nd, 2010|03:08 am]

Where to start?

Friday, when the Con began? )

Saturday - the day of Gideon's Trousers )

Sunday: swords, elections and the Gala Dinner )

Friday: it's the final countdown... )

Tuesday: Rendezvous with Roundworld. )

It was fun. Let's do it again sometime.

In the meanwhile, sleep calls. Especially as I've just spent almost five hours writing this...
